Daytona Beach, FL - There’s a new face at the head of the Florida Department of Transportation, and it might be familiar to some in Volusia County.

His name is Jared Perdue, he was the secretary for FDOT’s District 5—which encompasses much of Central Florida, including Daytona Beach and the Orlando area—but now he’s been handpicked by Governor Ron DeSantis to lead the department as the new secretary.

“Secretary Perdue brings a wealth of knowledge and understands the unique aspects of Florida’s transportation industry,” said DeSantis in a prepared release. “I am confident in his ability to lead FDOT and to continue to advance our transportation systems.”

Perdue has been with FDOT for 18 years, most recently at District 5. In his time with the district, Perdue was responsible for leading and developing a workforce of nearly 600 employees and managing an annual budget of nearly $1 billion. He was also instrumental in the completion of the I-4 Ultimate Project, FDOT’s largest project to date, and the Wekiva Parkway project. He additionally served in several leadership roles within the Department, prior to leading District 5.

Perdue got his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Citadel in 2003. He is married with five daughters.
