Bunnell Woman Charged With Damaging Campaign Signs

Bunnell, FL - A 42-year-old woman is charged with Criminal Mischief and False Name Given to LEO after Flagler County Sheriff's deputies found her damaging campaign signs Saturday afternoon. Tonya Mcrae was hitting one of the signs posted on private property at Colbert Lane and Pal Coast Parkway SE when a deputy pulled up.

The deputy's report states that Mcrae said that she was "walking along when she saw the signs and realized she was "tired of the lies" so she attempted to remove and destroy the signs. A small "Women for Trump" sign was laying on the ground, a small "Trump-Pence" sign was still wire-tied to a metal post but was crumpled and torn, and a larger sign was dented from where she was hitting it. The deputy's report states that a "No Trespassing" sign was posted near the campaign signs.

When Mcrae was told that it's illegal to destroy another person's property, she replied that it wasn't against the law if the signs violated her rights and that it was her duty to remove the campaign signs.

Mcrae told officers that she didn't have ID on her but she did have a valid Florida's drivers license. She gave deputies the name Phoenix M. Unger, which turned out to be false. The name was put through the state's system and met with no result. While deputies were trying to get a match for the name given, one of them reminded Mcrae that giving a false name is illegal. She then gave the correct name at which point she was arrested. She remains at the Flagler County Jail on a $500 bond.
