Bricks Of Marijuana Wash Ashore In Ormond By The Sea

Ormond By The Sea, FL -For the second time this year, a significant amount of drugs wash ashore in Volusia County.

Several beachgoers called for help around 11 this morning (September 12th) after spotting a "large package" wrapped in cellophane on the 1600 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard in Ormond By The Sea.

Volusia County Beach Safety Captain Tammy Malphurs says that package (photo above) had 23 smaller packages of marijuana inside (photo below), each one also wrapped in cellophane.

"It has been turned over to the Sheriff's Office for destruction," Malphurs added.

VCBS officials think the high tides and rough surf conditions being caused by Hurricane Florence likely led to the package coming close to shore.

According to this 911 call, a surfer found the package while at Al Weeks Sr. North Shore Park and pulled it onto the beach.

It's not clear where the marijuana came from.

Back in May, a jogger on the beach ran across a kilo of cocaine - also wrapped in plastic - just south of Andy Romano Park in Ormond Beach.
