New Smyrna Beach, FL - A woman is facing charges after stealing over $22,000 from a local restaurant.

On November 7th of 2018, New Smyrna Beach police responded to Gypsy Fresh Grill off North Dixie Freeway, where the owner told them about an employee-related theft.

The owner told police that as he completed a sales report for his assistant manager, 27-year-old Kelly Greene, he noticed orders she took were missing.

He knew the orders existed because he made them himself. He was also unable to find receipts for the orders Greene took and began searching for them, finding one of them in a kitchen trash can.

According to the owner, he pulled a copy of the full sales report for the day and found $39.45 of deleted transactions. When confronted, Greene admitted to stealing the $39.45 and admitted that she had been stealing for about two years, averaging $300 to $400 a week.

He explained that Greene said she was pocketing the money during cash transactions and then deleted the orders from the restaurant's records.

A sales report was shown to officers, running from August 9th, 2018 to November 7th, 2018. That report showed that Greene had deleted $1,486 from the system.

In total, thanks to extra information given to police by the owner, police found that Greene had stolen a grand total of $22,159.86 over two years.

NSBPD's incident report shows that throughout the rest of the year and into 2019, Greene did not speak to police, even when she was called directly.

The only time police came close is when Greene's mother and sister told them an attorney will get in contact with them. The attorney, who was a "family friend," told police the next day that he wasn't even sure he wanted to take the case.

After two months of trying to get in contact with Greene, New Smyrna police filed an arrest warrant against her after charging her with grand theft. Greene ended up turning herself in the next day (February 22nd).

Records show that she has since posted bond and is no longer in custody at Volusia County Jail.
