Florida - Gas prices are continuing to rise in the state with prices climbing 8 cents in the last week.
Currently, gas prices in Florida are averaging around $2.29, 8 cents more than last week and 11 cents more than this time last year. This year, gas has averaged $2.31 in Florida, costing at least $2.25 in over 76% of the state.
"Gas prices leveled out over the weekend, but should climb again this week," says AAA spokesman, Mark Jenkins. "Strong demand and another round of supply draws pushed the price of crude to its highest point in 9 weeks, and that trend is expected to continue this week. Gas prices should rise 5-10 cents this week, but remain below this year's highs, set earlier this year."
The cheapest gas in the state is in Pensacola at $2.24, Tallahassee at $2.25 and Fort Myers-Cape Coral at $2.27. The most expensive gas is in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton at $2.37, Gainesville at $2.30 and Miami at $2.30. In Daytona Beach, gas prices averaged $2.29 on Monday. So far this year, the highest average gas price in Florida was $2.47 on April 21 and the lowest was $2.13 on July 17. Gas prices are also rising nationally as the national average of $2.31 is 3 cents higher than last week and 16 cents higher than last year. Gas is above $2.25 at 53% of gas stations across the country and below $2.00 at 10% of gas stations in the country. Members of OPEC have agreed to reduce exports, causing crude inventories to decrease and prices to rise. This is likely to cause gas prices to continue to rise at the pump.
