AAA: Gas Prices Down 12 Cents In 11 Days

Daytona Beach, FL - Gas prices around the Sunshine State dropped nine cents during the past week, leading to a total discount of 12 cents.

That's according to AAA's latest gas report, detailing new low averages for the state at $2.58 per gallon (regular unleaded). The current average is nine cents less than last week, four cents more than last month and 22 cents less than this time last year.

And for this drop, Floridians can thank the current oil prices, according to Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA.

"Florida drivers are benefiting from low oil prices, which held pretty steady last week, thanks to ongoing market sentiment that global oil supply is stronger than demand," said Jenkins. "The state average should continue trickling lower this week, as it makes a likely push below $2.55 per gallon before Friday."

Volusia County drivers will be seeing some relief at the pumps with a countywide average of $2.59 per gallon, an eight-cent drop compared to last week's average.

And Flagler County drivers didn't see as big of a drop in prices, but they'll still feel some relief at the pump with a five-cent drop from last week's average, falling from $2.66 per gallon to $2.61 for this week.

The highest averages seen around the state can be found in Tallahassee, which is currently seeing prices hover around $2.69 per gallon.

The lowest averages come out of Tampa Bay with $2.52 per gallon.

The national average is currently hovering around $2.73 per gallon, a three-cent discount compared to the average at the start of last week.
