Daytona Beach, FL - Gasoline prices in the Daytona Beach metro area have basically flat-lined thanks to a glut in the world market.
That's what AAA is saying after new data shows a one-cent jump in the local regular gas price average over the past week to $2.20.
AAA spokesperson Joshua Carrasco says there are "record highs" for gas supply, according to a new report from the United States Energy Information Administration.
"Refineries had been running hard to meet seasonal demand for both heating oil and exports," Carrasco noted. "In doing so, they were left with more gasoline than there was demand for."
Average prices could drop up to five cents in the next ten days as a result, per Carrasco, but there are concerns that crude prices could go up as a result of ongoing political turmoil in Venezuela, one of the world's most oil-rich countries.
At the county level, Volusia's current average for a gallon of regular sits at $2,20, while Flagler is a cent below at $2.19.
Florida's current state average for regular is $2.22 per gallon, meaning that drivers are now paying four cents more than a month ago. That price is 34 cents less than this time last year, per AAA statistics.
The most expensive AAA gas price averages in Florida are in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.40), Panama City ($2.39) and Miami ($2.33). The least expensive are in Pensacola ($2.16), Melbourne-Titusville ($2.16) and Punta Gorda ($2.16).
The national average also went up three cents in the past week to $2.26 per gallon of regular. That's 32 cents less than this time last year.
