Oak Hill, FL - Volusia County investigators officially charge a 15-year-old male in the February shooting death of an Oak Hill teen.
Back in February of last year, 14-year-old Ernesto Sierra was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Sierra's cousins said that they heard a gunshot, with one of them claiming that he shot himself.
However, over a year after his death, investigators determine that Sierra didn't shoot himself.
Today (April 5th), detectives with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office charged 15-year-old Tavares Plummer in the death of Sierra.
According to VCSO, Tavares told deputies that Sierra had shot himself in the bathroom of his home off of Wood Avenue.
But, inconsistencies began to emerge in his account of the incident.
Detectives say that the home had security cameras outside and inside the home, but any and all footage taken around the time of the shooting had been erased.
Later on, DNA test results showed Plummer's DNA was present on the 9mm handgun that had killed Sierra.
VCSO also determined that it was physically impossible for Sierra to have shot himself.
Investigators worked closely with the State Attorney's office and made contact with Sierra's family today to inform them about the charge.
Plummer was arrested at his home on South Beach Street in Daytona Beach on a warrant for manslaughter.
He was later transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice
