Another Democrat Poised To Challenge Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange

Florida - Sen. Dorothy Hukill, R-Port Orange, has drawn a second Democratic challenger as she seeks re-election this fall in her district in Volusia and Brevard counties.

Cocoa Democrat Brandon Wayne Maggard opened a campaign account this week to run in Senate District, 14, according to the state Division of Elections website. Maggard joined Cocoa Democrat Melissa Martin, who opened a campaign account in August and had raised $18,047 for the race as of Feb. 28, a finance report shows. Hukill had raised $120,650.

Also this week, St. Petersburg Democrat Carrie Lambeth Pilon opened an account to challenge Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg, in Pinellas County’s Senate District 24. Brandes had raised $240,025 as of Feb. 28 for his re-election bid, according to a finance report.
