New Smyrna Beach, FL - The Hub on Canal Inc. announced that it plans to host and coordinate its first annual student film festival for Volusia County high school students in March of 2017. Working with the Volusia County High Schools’ film production and digital arts programs, The Hub on Canal will showcase approximately 30 student films and movie posters.

The theme for the film festival is A Day in My Life as I See It. During the fall 2016 semester, film production students created 4-minute films that reflected the film festival theme.  Students in the digital arts department at each school collaborated with the student filmmakers to create movie posters. In January 2017, students will have an opportunity to attend a roundtable workshop with local film industry leaders at The Hub on Canal. Students will have the option to revise and edit their films prior to the February 10, 2017, deadline.

The film festival is supported by a panel of judges consisting of five individuals comprised of community leaders, film industry professionals, educators, and business professionals.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to highlight the talents of Volusia County teens,” said Richard England, president of The Hub on Canal, Inc. “Through our outreach programs, we seek to provide support for these emerging artists by providing resources and connections to the broader film community in Central Florida.”
