New Smyrna Beach, FL-Experience the excitement of ocean birding during a Gulf Stream adventure Sunday, May 29.

The trip, sponsored by the Friends of the Marine Science Center, will leave at 3 a.m. from the dock beside the Dolphin View Restaurant, 107 N. Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach. It will return at 4 p.m.

Participants, led by birding expert Michael Brothers of the Marine Science Center, will travel to the center of the Gulf Stream, about 65 miles offshore. They will ride the Pastime Princess, a 100-foot aluminum boat with observation areas on the upper deck, bow and stern.

Because the trip is scheduled during spring migration, participants can expect to see petrels, shearwaters and other rarely seen pelagic (open ocean) birds.

The cost is $185 per person. To register, contact Brothers at 386-304-5543 or mbrothers@volusia.org.

Send a check, made payable to Friends of the Marine Science Center, to Marine Science Center, 100 Lighthouse Drive, Ponce Inlet, FL 32127.
