MainStreet DeLand Seeking Artists For Mural To Honor Local Man

DeLand, FL-MainStreet DeLand Association (MSDA) is seeking an artist to design and paint a mural in downtown DeLand dedicated to Rufus Pinkney, a longtime local business owner in downtown DeLand. 

 Pinkney, who died in 2016, became a fixture in Downtown DeLand, where he owned and operated a shoeshine business for several decades and was also known for his harmonica-playing skills. The mural will be located on the wall near where his business was once located off of East New York Avenue.

 Experienced mural artists are invited to provide digital images of original art and final mural scaled projects. The complete Request For Qualification information is available at www.MainStreetDeLand.org. To be considered for the mural, the organization must receive artists’ images and information on or before February 16, 2018. Selected artists will be sent an application with complete details for the mural project to submit an entry for consideration.

 Projected timeline:

February 16th:   Deadline to submit RFQ (including digital examples and professional resume)

March 1st:         Applications mailed to selected finalists

April 16th:         Selected artist applications due back to MSDA

May 2nd:            Winning artist will be announced. Original art work unveiled at Kick-off party.

June 1st:             Mural work begins

June 30th:           Mural work completed
