Libraries Plan Teen Fest Events

Posted

Volusia County, FL-The Volusia County Public Library system is celebrating Teen Read Week by hosting free Teen Fest events on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Deltona and Port Orange regional libraries.

Teens can "unleash their story" via a Skype visit with award-winning author A.S. King at 11 a.m. at both libraries. Afterward, they can participate in a variety of activities.

At the Deltona Regional Library, teens can share their poems and stories during an open mike event and learn ways to improve their Instagram account in the newly opened Launchpad makerspace.

At the Port Orange Regional Library, teens can try green shot photos, code with Ozobots, experience virtual reality, and create temporary tattoos.

Each library will have drawings for several copies of King's books and two tickets to an escape room. Light refreshments will be served. The events are co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Teen Read Week, Oct. 8 to 14, is a national teen literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. The 2017 theme, "Unleash Your Story," encourages teens to tell their stories and find stories, biographies, autobiographies, folk tales and more in their local library.
