Ormond Beach, FL—Good morning, we have your cup coffee waiting for you at Starbucks on June 14th between 8:30am and 10am. The Coffee with a Cop program intends to bring the officers from the Ormond Beach Police Department and community members together for free coffee and priceless conversations. The Ormond Beach Police Department has been holding these events for almost two years and has received positive feedback at each monthly get together. Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity to meet police officers in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee provided by the establishment at no cost. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies and/or during emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships and communication between police officers and community members. Coffee with a Cop is building a stronger community one cup at a time!
