Flagler County, FL –Flagler County is accepting applications for its Spring 2017 Citizens Academy program, a free nine-week course designed to introduce participants to the day-to-day operations of Flagler County government.  Registration is free, but class size is limited to 30 and applications are accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The Citizens Academy will be held on consecutive Tuesday mornings, from 9 a.m. to noon beginning February 14. Each week participants learn about responsibilities and operations of various County departments, including Land Management, Community Services, Emergency Management, and many others.

Classes are held at the different County facilities so that participants experience first-hand the broad range of resources and capabilities that Flagler County provides.  Locations include the 911 center, airport control tower, and a county park preserve. The final session – which includes a Q&A roundtable with the county commissioners – will be held on April 11.

A graduation ceremony on Monday, April 17 at 5 p.m. will recognize the 12th Citizens Academy class, during a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

Interested residents can find an application online atwww.flaglercounty.org/academy/apply or by contacting Rose Keirnan, PR & Marketing Specialist, at 386-313-4026 or rkeirnan@flaglercounty.org.  Offered twice yearly, the next opportunity to participate in Citizens Academy will be a series of evening classes in Fall 2017.
