Edgewater Fire-Rescue Expands Operation Caring For Christmas

Posted

Edgewater, FL-In 2003, Edgewater Fire-Rescue, in conjunction with the Edgewater Fire-Rescue Association, began to expand the Operation Caring program.  For many years, both organizations had been active in providing food and toys to children and families during the holiday season through the Operation Santa program.

Operation Caring is a year-round program which includes providing assistance to residents and visitors who may be devastated by a crisis.  Again this year that “crisis” can include a family that is not able to provide Christmas gifts or a holiday meal for their loved ones.

Donations of new clothes, gift cards for teens and new, unwrapped toys are being accepted at Station 55 (1605 South Ridgewood Avenue), Station 57 (2628 Hibiscus Drive) and City Hall (104 North Riverside Drive). There is also a need for non-perishable food and personal care items. Monetary donations are accepted as well – checks can be made Edgewater Fire-Rescue Association (EFRA).  Donations of food, toys, and money will be accepted without a deadline. All of these items will be distributed to people in the Edgewater area.

Signups for assistance will be held at the Edgewater Fire-Rescue Association Fire Hall (2616 Hibiscus Drive) on the following days:

November 22nd 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM

November 29th   6:00 PM until 7:30 PM

Applicants must provide the following: for children – birth certificate and Social Security card and for adults – Social Security card, picture ID, proof of income and proof of residence.  In order to be eligible to receive assistance, the applicant/family must reside in Edgewater.  Due to the large demand, applicants can sign up for assistance with only one organization.
