Volusia County, FL- The Volusia County Public Library system will sponsor a Great Gatsby art show as part of its 2017 Big Read programs.

Emerging and professional artists age 18 and over are invited to submit

up to three works by Nov. 15 for possible inclusion in ARTiculating

Gatsby, a juried exhibit overseen by a committee of local art experts.

Selected works will be displayed from Jan. 3 to 25 in the Thomas C.

Kelly Administration Center, Peabody Auditorium and New Smyrna Beach

Regional Library.

Artwork must reflect “The Great Gatsby,” a 1925 novel written by F.

Scott Fitzgerald. All media, except video, will be accepted. Artists are

expected to explain the connection between their work and the novel.

The Big Read program offers grants to support innovative community

reading programs designed around a single book. The library system

received a $15,000 Big Read grant from the National Endowment for the

Arts in May and chose “The Great Gatsby” as its theme. The library

system’s 13 branches and other venues will host book discussions and

schedule author talks, theatrical events and music programs in January

and February 2017. The branches also will show the film versions of the

book and schedule children’s programs and performances of an original

play written by Karen Poulsen, grant program administrator and activity

project manager for the library system.
